Calling all Podcast Listeners

I just love podcasts. They are fun, interesting and a great distraction. There are so many to choose from, it is hard to pick just one at a time. I find myself listening to one podcast and then realize I am behind on all the other ones I listen to - I need more time!

By listening to podcasts I have learned something about myself - I love a good story. I didn’t realize how much I enjoy just listening to a person’s story. The stories don’t have to be special but they are often unique and can transport me from wherever I am, to wherever they are. I suppose It’s like reading a book when you feel like you are submerged in the story.

When does one listen to podcasts? My favorite time is when I am out walking or running. Literally there are times I walk around the block to finish a podcast. I rarely listen to music anymore while I am running because I find the stories so much more compelling (and distracting!) than music. I listen to them in my car for both long and short trips. When do you listen them?

If you are new to podcasts and have no idea where to start, here are some great true stories:

  1. S- Town: A vividly told story revolving around fascinating characters in a small town in Alabama.

  2. Dr. Death: This one reminds you of the importance of a second opinion.

  3. Dirty John: When something appears to be too good to be true, it usually is.

  4. The Shrink Next Door: What happens when a therapist takes over his client’s life.

  5. In the Red Clay: Who knew there was a powerful Dixie Mafia in Georgia.

What do these podcasts have to do with Health Coaching? Not really anything unless you listen to them while doing your new exercise routine, cooking your more nutritious meals or relaxing by taking some time for yourself.

Next week I will suggest some health related podcasts - not so much stories but a lot of great information to make your world a little healthier.
